    在這個消費時代，錢無非就是拿來買買買?？刂屏Σ缓煤苋菀拙屯钢Ш砂荒艹酝吝^日。今天，我們來了解一下有關(guān)沒錢的英語表達(dá)。

quite pennniless

"penny"意為“便士”；“less”表“無”，結(jié)合起來指“沒錢”。

He's always quite penniless at the end of month.
一到月末，他就沒錢。

 

flat broke

"flat"基本意思是“平坦的”，這里是“完全”，表程度。“broke”指“破產(chǎn)”

He was flat broke when he came out from the casino.
當(dāng)他走出賭場時，他已經(jīng)輸?shù)經(jīng)]錢了。

 

be cleaned out

錢財被清空。

She's cleaned out by shopping on the internet.
網(wǎng)購買買買后她就沒錢了。

 

haven't a bean

口袋里一顆豆都沒有，形容囊中羞澀。

I can't go to the concert to see my idol because I haven't a bean.
我去不了演唱會，因為我沒錢了。

 

short/lack of money

金錢緊缺。

I am short of money recently.
最近我沒錢。

 

on one's uppers

極度貧窮，處境窘迫。

They are on their uppers so they have to rely on the support from government.
他們太窮了只能靠政府的資助。

 

keep the wolf from the door

拒狼門外。英語文化中，"wolf"(狼)是饑餓的象征。把饑餓擋于門外，形容免于饑餓，勉強(qiáng)度日。

She spent most of her money,now she can just keep the wolf from the door.
她花光了大部分的錢，現(xiàn)在只能勉強(qiáng)度日。

 

max out credit card

"max"基本意思是“最大值”；在此引申為“透支”信用卡。

I maxed out my credit card so I can't afford other stuff.
我透支了信用卡，已經(jīng)沒錢買其他東西了。

 

poor as a church mouse

教堂沒有廚房，因此里面的老鼠沒東西吃。窮得像教堂的老鼠，形容人一貧如洗，生活窘迫。

After a day at the races I was poor as a church mouse.
一天賽馬會下來，我已經(jīng)窮得響叮當(dāng)了。
