連系動(dòng)詞seem, appear和look用法區(qū)別

三者均屬于表示狀態(tài)的來(lái)連系動(dòng)詞,都有“好像”、“似乎”的意思,區(qū)別如下:
(1) seem 側(cè)重指事實(shí)上似乎是那樣的;look 指視覺(jué)印象,指看起來(lái)似乎如此;appear 指從表面上看似乎如此,但有時(shí)并非如此。如:
They seemed tired and unhappy when they got home. 他們回到家時(shí)看來(lái)很累,不高興。
Be careful! The newly waxed floor looks very slippery. 小心點(diǎn)!這新打蠟的地板看起來(lái)很滑。
She appears quite old. 她顯得很老。
(2) 三者均可后接不定式,但 look 之后一般只限于 to be(且較少見(jiàn)):
The man seems / appears / looks to be very tired. 那人好像很疲勞。
He seemed / appeared to have met her before. 他以前似乎見(jiàn)過(guò)她。
(3) 三者均可用于 it 開(kāi)頭的句子,且三者之后均可接從句。如:
It seemed / as if / though the day would never end. 似乎白天永遠(yuǎn)也過(guò)不完。
It looked as if he had been ill. 他看起來(lái)像是生過(guò)病。
It seems / appears that he is very rich. 他似乎很富有。
為避免重復(fù),appear和seem后接的 that 從句有時(shí)可用so或 not代替。如:
“Is he an honest man ?” “It seems / appears so / not.”“他是誠(chéng)實(shí)的人嗎?”“似乎是 / 不是。”
(4) look, seem 之后可接like短語(yǔ),但 appear 之后一般不能:
You look like your father. 你看起來(lái)像你父親。
It seemed like a disaster at the time. 在當(dāng)時(shí)就好像是一場(chǎng)災(zāi)難。
