   “我在馬路邊撿到一分錢，把它交到警察叔叔手里面……”這首兒歌陪伴了許多70、80后的童年成長。但你可別小看了這“一分錢”，在英式英語里，一分錢的表達是：a penny（一便士），而與penny的搭配有很多，今天我們就來學習 penny花樣表達：

1. A penny saved
俗話說：一分也是愛，省一分賺一分。所以這個習語強調(diào)存錢是很重要的。

Mary worked hard to save money; she knew that a penny saved is a penny earned.
瑪麗努力地存錢，因為她明白省錢就是賺錢的道理。

2. A pretty penny
一分錢可沒有美丑之分，其實它的意思是“一大筆錢”。

Those diamond earrings must have cost a pretty penny.
那些鉆石耳環(huán)一定花了一大筆錢。

3. The penny drop
別做夢了，天上可不會掉錢。這個短語的意思是：“突然明白了”、“恍然大悟”。

Scientists have found that while women are slower than men at getting jokes, they enjoy them more when the penny does drop。
科研人員發(fā)現(xiàn)，盡管女性領(lǐng)會笑話比男性慢半拍，但一旦她們“恍然大悟”，會比男性更享受其中的樂趣。

4. In for a penny, in for a pound
penny指一分錢，而pound指的則是一英鎊。上面這個俚語的意思是：凡事不能半途而廢，既然開始，就要不遺余力地完成它。

After some hesitation I did finally decide to buy a car, and so I bought a new one-well, in for a penny, in for a pound.
猶豫一了陣后，我終于決定買輛車，而且我還買了一輛新車――真是下了決心！

5. A penny for your thoughts
當你搞不懂對方在想什么時，可以用這個表達來詢問對方。

-Hi! Tom. A penny for your thoughts!
喂！ 湯姆，你在想什么！
-Oh, I'm just thinking about what I want to do over the weekend.
哦，我在想周末干什么。
